Supporting the Community's fight against COVID-19 through partnerships

Picture

As the country, and the world, continues the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, now more than ever it is important that organisations and communities join hands to support those in need. This was the theme and approach of our community service efforts within August. Lead by our Community Service Chair, Brent Baptiste, our club rose to action, with the support of organisations willing to take up the challenge.

Partnering with the Pricesmart Foundation

As part of their Nationwide relief effort, the Pricesmart Foundation and the Rotary Clubs of Trinidad and Tobago, joined forces to offer support for the less fortunate within communities. The Rotary Club of Point Fortin was able to distribute seventy food hampers to aid families negatively affected by the current pandemic.

"Life can be hard and when you’re feeling down, your problems can seem insurmountable. Giving back to my community offered me a new perspective. Seeing people who are worse off than you are, yet still hanging in there, can help you see your life in a whole new light. Helping others makes me feel good about myself, because you’re doing something for someone that they couldn’t do for themselves. I look forward and with the assistance from my club to continue the enhancement of lives within our community".

Partnering with the Point Fortin Borough Council

During this time of crisis, the Point Fortin Borough Council, recognised the need to support single mothers and babies, reached out to the Rotary Club of Point Fortin to join the initiative. Our club was able to provide 15 hygiene packages to the council for distribution within the community. Packages will be distributed throughout the six electoral districts of Point Fortin with the assistance of the various Councillors. The club salutes the efforts being made by the Council, and look forward to future partnerships and support.

"Rotary International’s motto is 'Service Above Self' and as Rotarians, we are grounded in this philosophy. These are challenging times, and the pandemic has no definitive end in sight. The Rotarians of Point Fortin are people of action, who saw the need to collaborate with other organizations to assist the vulnerable in the community. I have been a Rotarian for over twenty years. I am continually fulfilled as we harness resources to bring relief and positive change to people’s lives. This personal satisfaction confirms that my decision to join Rotary International was the right one."

Winston Churchill once said, "We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give". These words continue to echo within the hearts of Rotarians, who continue to live Rotary's motto 'Service Above Self'. We look forward to future partnerships and making a larger impact within the community.
